Re: Yet another Sharp MZ-80K emulator ...

... it would seem that the answer is yes, the BASIC on the MZ-80A is faster than that of the MZ-80K when run with my prime number test programme.

(Thanks mz-80a for confirming!)

Re: Yet another Sharp MZ-80K emulator ...

Release 2.0.0 also has a first attempt at MZ-80A emulation. https://z80.timholyoake.uk/pico-mz-80a-first-release/ A question - was the BASIC provided with the 80A more efficient than that of the 80K? On my emulator, an identical BASIC program to calculate prime numbers runs approximately 9% faster. ...

Re: Yet another Sharp MZ-80K emulator ...

I've let a beta version escape into the wild today. It's likely to be replaced fairly quickly by a proper v1 release, but just in case someone would like to try it in the next few days you can find it (plus documentation) here:

Yet another Sharp MZ-80K emulator ...

Hi all, For the last few weeks I've been working on putting together an emulator for the Sharp MZ-80K, using a Raspberry Pico and the Pimoroni VGA demo base. It's now at the stage where it is functionally complete and I'm testing it. I'm also in the process of documenting it from a user and a (pico)...

Re: MZ-700 correct filter capacitors for PSU

Yeah, fair comment. I replaced mine because I was cleaning and repairing the whole machine at the time, and as it was all in bits it was a case of "why not"! I had a fairly new desoldering / resoldering station I fancied playing with as well ... I did say that replacement isn't strictly ne...

Re: MZ-700 correct filter capacitors for PSU

Before and after photographs for reference. It's likely that you'll also need to replace the T500mA slow blow fuse as well.

Re: MZ-700 correct filter capacitors for PSU

Hi Winston, You don't strictly need to replace them, but they are 0.01uF (C1) and 0.047uF (C2) X2 safety capacitors. The ones below are those that I've used successfully in mine. The pitch is slightly too small (10mm), but if you're prepared to put up with a slightly bent leg they're fine (The selle...

Re: Fortran

If anyone is interested in Fortran on the MZ-700, I've translated the German documentation into English for the two compilers available on the sharpmz site. They actually look like they're the same compiler, with a couple of differences that I've noted. https://z80ephemera.wordpress.com/2021/06/14/f...

Moonlander

A S-BASIC game for the MZ-700 that I've put together during the last month. It's based on the Usborne 'Spacegames' text only version, with graphics inspired by a port for the Commodore PET I saw on twitter recently. More details and links to a .wav & .mzf version here: https://z80.timholyoake.uk...
